97 weeks agoBeta 10 for Windows
A preview of Beta 10 is out, it's not very different from beta9 except for a number of bug fixes and UI improvements. These improvements are small themselves but sum up to a nice upgrade. Mac release is planned for March 7th and it will be pretty much identical to Windows version. UNIX version is scheduled to be released March 14th. The expiry date moved to June 1st and that's also a soft deadline for the 1.0 release. I did a complete rewrite of my S3 code to prepare for exciting new features that will come in future versions: file revisions, file splitting (this means no filesize limits and block-level differential backups), rolling snapshots, encrypted filenames etc. Another big thing on my roadmap is an FTP gateway into your S3 Backup storage. It will also have the versioning features which is really cool as it practically eliminates any kind of data loss. Business customers might want to have a custom version to use for shared storage in their organization, and if you host this on an EC2 server this becomes a really powerful solution, with the potential to improve productivity like no other. There will also be a big upgrade to backup functionality and UI to give you much more control what to back up or not. An explorer-like interface for including and excluding folders from the backup and a rule-based system for fine-grained control. This is planned for the next beta. You can download beta10 here.
