49 weeks agoOne for the Webmasters

I didn't originally plan to announce it before release, but hey, why not? There's another application in development, unimaginatively named S3 Webmaster, that is targeted at people who would want to use Amazon S3 not just to store files privately but for public sharing as well. As you might know, S3 can serve files via HTTP, so it can be used as a kind of CDN (Content Distribution Network). It sure can sustain any kind of load so it's a good idea to use it for distributing your static content if you're a webmaster, and at $0.18/GB it's a bargain. It could be useful to regular folks to share files that are too big for email, or files that you'd want to share with many people but can't be bothered with uploading it each and every time. That is, if uploading to S3 and making your files public was easy. That's exactly what S3 Webmaster will do -- make it simple.

I actually decided to announce it a bit early because of this exchange in comments, with some alleged competitor (no working software yet).
