102 weeks agoStatus of S3 Backup development (on Mac OS X too)
This week I released Beta 9 and, as I promised before, my focus will become the Mac OS X release. There is a (private) Google group for testing the Mac port previews, if you're super-curious, request an invite there. Anyway I estimate that I'll manage to release Mac port this month, but maybe it will lack scheduling at first. Linux release is easy so I guess you can expect it to be simultaneous with Mac. I have to confess that due to wxWidgets GUI backend it looks ported on Mac, for ex. I want to have Safari-style forward and back buttons, but I'm not sure if that's possible at all with wx. But I'm trying to get right as many Mac UI concepts as possible.
Also, I am buried with email right now and apologize to everyone waiting for a reply, feel free to "ping" me if you don't get a reply within a few days. I guess I'll have to spend a whole weekend replying to emails, there's really that much.
Oh, BTW, there's a known bug in beta 9, it's caused by bsddb that randomly fails in a multithreaded environment. Users see this problem when the app doesn't remember the files it uploaded on last backup and reuploads them again. This is more likely to happen with especially big backups -- 10Gb+. I know this is very annoying and that's why I'll have a release with a fix to this bug ever earlier than the Mac port is ready. If you're affected by this bug, please wait for the fix that will be released next week -- it will fix the problem and no reuploading will be required. Thanks.
Update: that bug is fixed in Beta 9+.
